Am I eligible for funding?

There are two main government programs that support people to live safely and independently at home. The one that applies to you, depends on your age and situation.

Support through My Aged Care

Government-funded in-home care is accessed through My Aged Care. We can help you understand the process so you can get started with a provider that suits you.

Step 1

Register with My Aged Care

Call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 or apply online here. You’ll be connected to a local assessment team.

Step 2

Screening and assessment

An assessor will help determine what support you’re eligible to receive.

Step 3

If Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)  approved,

You will receive referral codes

If Home Care Package (HCP)  approved,

You will receive the outcome of your Home Care Package level and priority status. You are now waiting for assignment.

Step 4

Research a home care provider

(You're doing this right now!) Five Good Friends is an approved home care provider.

Step 5

Complete an income tested care fee (ITF) assessment

Call Services Australia on 1800 227 475 and ask for the assessment form to be sent to you.

Step 6

Receive confirmation of package assignment

You’ll have 56 days to choose a provider and enter into a home care agreement.

You can start planning before your funding is approved.

Support at Home update:
The journey to better aged care

Australia's aged care system is going through significant changes to make life better for older Australians.

These changes began after the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety revealed the need for improvement. They aim to help more older Australians live safely and independently at home for longer, by creating a system that is:

  • Easier to understand and navigate
  • Delivers higher quality care and support
  • Respects the dignity and choices of older people
